Liberia - The Home of the Free
Liberia is a country on the west coast of Africa, bordered by Côte d'Ivoire, Guinea, and Sierra Leone. It was founded in 1847 by freed slaves from the United States.
Liberia's population consists of approximately 5% freed slaves and 95% indigenous people to Liberia. When the former slaves moved into Liberia, the country consisted of many tribes ruled by different kings. The Americo-Liberians took over the country, and changed its name to Liberia, from the word liberty. Monrovia was created as the capital, named after president James Monroe of the United States.
